10 day Permaculture Certificate Course for the Irish Climate
Permaculture Resources Ireland & Ancient Permaculture are offering you a permaculture certificate course for the Irish climate. Based on Bill Mollison’s Permaculture Designers’ Manual, it provides comprehensive knowledge and skills training in Permaculture design, a science that can create abundant sustainable ecosystems in your own backyard, on a small farm, or on a broader acreage or landscape. The course is specifically designed to relate to a humid temperate climate and to support local communities. For 5 weeks every Saturday & Sunday there will be a weekend course on offer, which is 60 % classroom based and 40% practical orientated.  During the practical part of the course you will be actively  engaging in co creating a permaculture demonstration site for the local community in Galway.

Teachers:

Adam Afoullouss

Adam grew up in Ireland, but his roots lie also in Morocco, in his early days he completed an apprenticeship as a mechanic but later found his passion for Permaculture. First starting his work in organic vegetable and fruit production in Spain and from there going on to completing a two year degree in Sustainable Horticulture and Permaculture in Ireland.

Adam then joined the Internship Team,at the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia, where he learned how to teach and practice permaculture under the management of Geoff and Nadia Lawton. There he gained his International Management Certificate and gained valuable experience managing a place like Zaytuna farm and working together with Geoff Lawton on Consultancies, Designs and Implementations. Learning also from many others who are leading the way in their field, like Paul Taylor, Graham Bell and David Spicer.

Istvan Markuly
Lead Facilitator and Local community developer who is working on establishing and growing the permaculture network in West Cork, Ireland and initiating Permaculture Waves across the country! He has taken PDC’s and Permaculture workshops internationally and continuously  expands his knowledge. He is the  Co founder of Earth Environmental Education,  provides easy understanding through the principles of permaculture which might make people feel motivated, zestful and dynamic.

What you will learn:

Permaculture principles: Overviewing what permaculture design is and the philosophy and ethics behind permaculture.

– Concepts and themes in design:  begin to understand the components – stability, diversity, order, chaos, yields, resources, time sequences- that are the strength of our systems. It will become clear why nature is our model and how the interactions with the natural systems create resilience.

– Methods of designing: You learn to analyse what components should go into a design, how natural systems can and should be included. And where these things are best positioned on the site as a holistically engaged environment.

Pattern understanding:   Patterns are recurring forms of events that we can find all around us in nature. Understanding these basic underlying patterns of natural phenomena is a powerful tool for design.

Trees & tree energy transaction: You will learn about the complex interactions between trees and their physical environment.

Water: Water is the one that connects it all, in this section you will learn about specific strategies of water conservation and control for the humid climate of Ireland, and for specific land form sections.

– Soil:
Soil is a precious resource and we will learn about repairing soils healthy food web through various ways of stimulating the soil food web with techniques like compost extract, bio-fertilizers, and chop and drop.

Earthwork: Earthworks set the framework for garden bed or food forest creation and is inextricably tied to harnessing the energetic exchange of water in the landscape.

– Aquaculture: We will discuss the different ways of using water as a productive system. Aquaculture is incredibly productive, given the same inputs in energy and nutrients water can give from 4 to 20 times the yield then the adjoining land.

Social permaculture: Here we will go into the social element of permaculture and how we can create local communities moving towards a sustainable future.

Each of the chapters will give you a basic understanding of Bill Mollison’s Permaculture Designers Manual.
